For those of you (like me) who may live far enough away from Reading to have missed the news, our alma matter is going through a rash of bomb threats. Apparently it is causing a major disruption to life at the middle school and high school, and there is even a website set up to encourage tips and raise reward money. It's called BustACreep.com.
I have recceived at least one request to bring back the yearbook feature, so I made it happen tonight. If you ever visited the previous version of this website, you may have noticed that it had a page set up to display the senior class photo pages from the 1996 yearbook from our high school. I put a lot of time into that page with all the scanning of pages ad coding of javascript to swap images; but it had to go when I switched to the new content management system. Anyway, I still have all of the scanned pages, and it didn't take long to set up a new section of the website to display tthem with this new content management system. Here's the catch: you need to register for the site and log-in to be able to see it. I figured that most people who care have signed up anyway, and this would give us a layer of protection from the casual browser who might just be mildly curious what one of us looked like in high school. Fair enough? Let me know if you would like to see any other pages added, and I may add them to my to-do list.
In the interest on making it easier to find reunion info, I have added the "Reunion Central" section to the website. I didn't spend much time thinking about the name, so suggestions to change it are welcome. I'm thinking that this section will be the place to post photos and stories from past reunions, news and info on current reunions, and also maintain some sort of future planning ideas for reunions down the road. If anyone has any suggestions for what they would like to see here or they might like to use the site to help plan a reunion, please let me know!
I just wanted to let you know that we are experiencing some problems with the message boards. I am working to find a solution, but it may take a little time. If you need to post a message, please email it to me so that I can post it in the News section. Otherwise, please be patient while I work on the repairs. Thanks!
Hi Guys! Here's a quick update on the Members' area. I edited the User Menu slightly to make it a little easier to get to your Member Profile page. The menu item labeled "Edit Your Profile" now takes you directly to the page where you can enter/change info on your member profile; and the new "View Your Profile" menu item now takes you to the main page where you can see what your profile currently looks like. This main page also gives you some additional menu items at the top, including the image upload command on the Edit menu. Please try these items out and let me know if you have any suggestions for additions/improvements. Also, new users will now be directed to the "edit profile" page on their first log-in so that they can enter additional info upon confirming their membership. And finally, you no longer need to wait for my approval to use an image with your membership account. I can always delete it if I get complaints, but this should make it easier to get your picture online so that we can recognize you at the reunion (I know, I need to update my own picture, too!). Thanks! That's all for now!
Governor Mifflin High School is about to start renovations, and I have to admit that I'm disappointed that my firm did not have the opportunity to compete for this design project. I guess it's like the old saying: a prophet is never welcome in his home town - or, in my case, an architect. I'm reserving judgment on the design until I can see some better renditions of it - the perspective rendering on the GMSD website is just a thumbnail image, which appears to lack a lot of detail. Anyway, this article on the GMSD website was the first place I had seen any news on this project, and I imagine that a lot of other alumni have missed the news until now as well. If you happen to know more about this project than I do, please post your info in the message boards. - Richard Linsky, AIA, Nalls Architecture, Inc.
This is just a quick note to let everyone know that I've upgraded the site with the latest service packs for the software that makes it possible. I am hopeful that it will solve the log-in problems that I've seen on the site; and it should also make the pages load a little faster while also improving security. If you do experience any problems, please post a note about your experience on the message board. If you're having trouble with the message board, try the Contact page. Thanks!
